Remember this is your day whether it is basic or involved, casual or formal. It is a solemn occasion, because Marriage according to law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. The requirements needed to be met in order to have a marriage solemnized are: You and your witnesses need to be at least 18 years of age Original Birth Certificates if you are born in Australia. If you are born overseas an original Birth Certificate or Extract. A Passport from country of birth. If these can not be obtained then you can provide a Statuatory Declaration. A Notice of Intention to Marry Form needs to be completed one month and one day prior to the ceremony.
